It was initially arranged that the Award Ceremony should take place each spring. Regrettably, Yugoslavia was in war in 1999 and the Ceremony had to be postponed to September. Milanka Karić, president of the Foundation, has referred to that in her welcoming speech: “The donor’s aim was to present this award in April of each year at the National Theatre and for the best and most famous to entertain with music, singing and reciting the likewise best ones who were chosen and awarded. In so doing, the 'Karić Brothers' Award would remain remembered by beauty and joy. We have wished the ceremony culminated in fireworks. To our deep regret, this year’s Ceremony will not go as envisaged. It is not the time for joy whilst Kosovo and Metohija are swept over by sorrow and pain and the persecution of our people from their ancestral home is taking place. Our hearts go out to them. This year’s award shall therefore be presented simply and devoid of any celebration.”Accordingly, the Award was presented in the grand hall of the “Aeroinženjering” business building. The organiser has donated the entire sum of 500,000 dinars designated for the award ceremony to the Serbian Orthodox Church in aid of the clergy and monasticism in Kosmet. Janićije Karić, Danijela Karić and Aleksandar Nedeljković have presented the awards.
